Doug Marrone takes jab at Tom Coughlin during season-end press conference
The Jacksonville Jaguars seem to be glad to be rid of former executive vice president Tom Coughlin and his strict ways.
On Tuesday, coach Doug Marrone made a joke about a fine after a reporter’s phone went off midway through the presser. Marrone noted that the fines had been reduced, a clear message about Coughlin.
Phone goes off in presser. Doug says $500 fine. Someone says $500? Doug says yeah we reduced it. That’s a Coughlin jab. @ActionSportsJax @ESPN690Jax

Coughlin was apparently notorious for his fines. Some of those fines were frivolous enough that players won grievances against them, and that happened with such frequency that the NFLPA warned players against signing with Jacksonville. That discipline definitely bothered the players, but maybe it annoyed Marrone, too, if he wasn’t the one instituting those punishments.
