Report: Drew Lock likely to make first NFL start against Chargers
The Denver Broncos have cycled through a number of quarterbacks since Peyton Manning retired after the 2015 season, and it sounds like they will have a new starter yet again in Week 13.
Rookie second-round pick Drew Lock, who was placed on injured reserve after suffering a thumb injury prior to the season, has been practicing this week. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the former Missouri star is trending toward starting against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
After taking first-team reps all week, all signs are pointing to rookie Drew Lock coming off Injured Reserve to start for the #Broncos on Sunday, source said. Sounds like it’s all gone well this week.

Broncos head coach Vic Fangio had recently hinted that Lock may not play at all in his rookie season, but John Elway probably wants to get a look at him so he can decide if he wants to draft yet another quarterback in April. Plus, Brandon Allen has not played well over his last two starts. Allen completed just 10-of-25 passes for 82 yards and an interception in last week’s 20-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
The Broncos drafted Lock with the 42nd overall pick this year, so they must feel he has a chance to be their quarterback of the future. With a 3-8 record and nothing to play for down the stretch, it makes sense to give him some reps.
