Report: Eagles are ‘in love with’ Ezekiel Elliott
The Philadelphia Eagles have an uncertain quarterback situation heading into the 2016 season, and they would likely jump at the opportunity to draft either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff at No. 8 overall. But if those two signal-callers are off the board by that time, as expected, Ezekiel Elliott could be the pick.
Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reports that the Eagles are “in love with” Elliott and would love to add him to the fold.
If the Eagles stay at No. 8, and especially if two quarterbacks are gone by then as widely expected, then I continue to hear running back Ezekiel Elliott is the pick. They are in love with him, they have done extensive work on him, they have parted with accomplished veteran running backs LeSean McCoy and DeMarco Murray the past two years, they need an identity on offense and they are going to be limited at the quarterback position no matter who wins the job. So a run game is imperative. This kid has a top-10 skill set and is plug-and-play and I don’t see him getting past Miami at No. 12.
La Canfora adds that there is a belief among some that Eagles GM Howie Roseman wants to make a major splash in this year’s draft, which could mean he is interested in trading up to draft a quarterback.
If the Eagles do decide to move up, we know the team they will be calling or have already called. If not, Elliott would be an easy sell for a fan base that has watched star running backs LeSean McCoy and DeMarco Murray over the past two years.
