Watch: Eagles’ Treyvon Hester tipped Cody Parkey field goal attempt
Treyvon Hester may actually be the real Eagles MVP.
Cody Parkey missed a 43-yard field goal attempt with five seconds left that would have given the Chicago Bears an 18-16 lead over the Philadelphia Eagles in their NFC Wild Card playoff game on Sunday. The missed kick, which went off the left upright and hit the crossbar, left Bears coach Matt Nagy in disbelief. Parkey has quickly been targeted by us and others as a choker, but it turns out we missed a key detail.
Video shows that Hester actually tipped Parkey’s kick, affecting its path and quite likely leading to its miss.
Watch this video in slow-mo…Treyvon Hester comes up with a huge block off the tip of the fingers forcing the change of trajectory in the kick…wow. #CodyParkey #FLyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/e3jBT3VazL

Here’s a frame-by-frame look that clearly shows the Parkey kick was tipped by Treyvon Hester (Hester confirmed to @Bo_Wulf he tipped it). pic.twitter.com/6dOXui7Yyp

This key detail that has been so widely missed was actually noted in the locker room by reporter Bo Wulf, who took a photo of Hester’s left hand.

Parkey even said after the game he thought he hit the ball well.
Bears K Cody Parkey: “I feel terrible. There’s really no answer to it. I thought I hit a good ball.”

He was probably right. It looks like Hester tipping the ball sent it off course.
