Report: Eagles will try to trade Nick Foles

Nick Foles

The Philadelphia Eagles intend to try to trade quarterback Nick Foles, according to a report.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles are likely to franchise tag Foles and then try to trade him, with the asking price expected to be a third-round pick. The Eagles are said to be “determined” to go this route, and teams that have spoken to Philadelphia get the sense that this is their ultimate plan.

The Eagles will first pick up Foles’ $20 million option, after which Foles will pay the team $2 million to void that option. That is likely to be followed by the franchise tag and trade efforts.

It is unclear if Foles is on board with this plan, or how much say he will have in his ultimate trade destination if the Eagles do pursue this route.

All reporting indicates that the Eagles will be picking up the option, and it looks increasingly unlikely that Foles will have the opportunity to choose his team in free agency. This appears likely to be a process, so we’ll see how it ends.
