Eric Berry was surprisingly absent from the NFL in 2019, but that was apparently by design.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Berry took a sabbatical during the 2019 season, turning down opportunities to play. The safety intends to return to the league in 2020 after the year off.

Berry has played in just three regular season games since the end of the 2016 season. In 2017, a ruptured Achilles cost him virtually all of the year, and a nagging heel injury wiped out much of his 2018. He also beat lymphoma after the 2014 season.
The longtime Kansas City Chiefs defensive back was the subject of a lot of interest when he became a free agent after 2019. The fact that he didn’t sign was a surprise, but it was apparently by choice. Expect him to get some looks this offseason as long as he’s healthy.
