Eric Bieniemy is coming back to his most high-profile role.
Bieniemy is joining the Kansas City Chiefs as their new offensive coordinator, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. He previously served as Kansas City’s offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2022.
The Chiefs are expected to hire Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy to be their next offensive coordinator, per source.

Bieniemy would return to the post he previously occupied from 2018-2022 in Kansas City. https://t.co/Xs9arknt4N
Bieniemy will replace Matt Nagy, whose contract expired. Nagy is widely expected to land a head coaching job, so the Chiefs did not expect to have him back.
Since Bieniemy last left the Chiefs, his career has taken several turns. He had unsuccessful spells with the Washington Commanders and UCLA before spending this past season as the Chicago Bears’ running backs coach. During his heyday with Kansas City, he was frequently named as a head coach candidate, but never landed one of those jobs, much to the confusion of his players.
Bieniemy’s stock has certainly fallen over the past few years as he has been unable to replicate his success with Kansas City elsewhere. However, the Chiefs’ players should be comfortable with him, and he certainly would seem to be a safe pair of hands for the organization as it tries to recover from a down season.
