Ex-Rams GM rips Alex Barron, says he only cares about money
Offensive tackle Alex Barron has not appeared in an NFL regular season game since he was with the Dallas Cowboys in 2010. A former first-round pick out of Florida State, Barron has fallen well short of expectations and failed to make an impact at the professional level. He should fit in nicely with the Oakland Raiders.
On Monday, former St. Louis Rams general manager Billy Devaney ripped Barron.
“He does not like anything about the game except getting paid,” Devaney rold ESPN’s “NFL Insiders, per Around the League. He also noted that he does not believe Barron has the heart to succeed in the NFL.
The Rams drafted Barron in 2005, but Devaney was not with the team then. He quickly realized that Barron was not someone he wanted to have on his team’s roster, so he traded him to the Dallas Cowboys. In Dallas, Barron became a part of an offensive line that consistently failed to open up holes for rushers or protect Tony Romo.
Raiders left tackle Jared Veldheer suffered a triceps injury that required surgery last week, so it appears Barron is going to step into his role along Oakland’s offensive front. While he is still a relatively young player at age 30, Oakland isn’t exactly a place where many players have gone to revive their NFL careers.
