The Buffalo Bills were burned by two familiar words on Sunday night: “wide right.”
Bills kicker Tyler Bass’ 44-yard field goal attempt with 1:47 left in the game sailed wide right of the uprights. The missed kick kept the Kansas City Chiefs’ 27-24 lead intact and all but ended Buffalo’s season.
The Chiefs ended up rushing for a first down on their ensuing possession to escape Highmark Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y. with a win and a ticket to the AFC title game.

KICK IS NO GOOD.

Bills fans have been haunted by “wide right” for decades now. The team famously lost in Super Bowl XXV after kicker Scott Norwood missed on a 47-yard attempt that would have won them a title in the closing seconds. The 1991 defeat was the first of the Bills’ four consecutive Super Bowl losses.

Buffalo losing on a wide right missed field goal is like if Lance Armstrong got cancer in his other ball.

Despite Bass’ miss, Bills quarterback Josh Allen made sure to comfort his kicker after the game.

Buffalo supporters looked like they needed some comfort from Allen as well. A handful of Bills fans were utterly heartbroken in the stands following their team’s Divisional Round elimination against the Chiefs.
