Former QB thinks Johnny Manziel could return to NFL
One former NFL quarterback is still buying Johnny Manziel’s chances of returning to the U.S.
Kurt Warner told TMZ Sports that in spite of his brutal debut in the CFL, he’s still a believer that Manziel’s talent and willingness to try to make plays could carry him back to the NFL.
“I don’t think this means he can’t play,” Warner said when asked about Manziel’s four debut interceptions. “He’s always trying to make plays. And you saw that last week. He’s running around, he’s making some plays; some he’s a little bit off, and at this level when you’re a little bit off it turns into an interception. … I don’t believe this means he can’t play in the NFL, but he’s still gotta improve.
“He’s not afraid to take chances. He’s not afraid to try to make plays, and that’s what makes great quarterbacks great. But you gotta be judicial with it, and you gotta make sure you’re making more plays than mistakes. Let’s get down to zero interceptions, and make a whole bunch of plays. And that’s how he’s going to make his way back.”
Warner is taking an optimistic route, but anyone who saw Manziel’s CFL debut knows he’s a long way away from being considered NFL-ready. Warner’s own personal tale is enough reason to never say never, though.
