Frank Reich reveals how involved Panthers owner David Tepper is
Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich on Monday gave some insight regarding the involvement of team owner David Tepper.
Reich spoke with the media on Monday and fielded several questions about his relationship with Tepper, who bought the team in 2018. Reich opened up about Tepper’s level of involvement with the team.
“There’s different philosophies in ownership,” said Reich. “Some owners kind of stay away and don’t engage a whole lot. Other owners do. [Tepper’s] philosophy is he’s going to engage. It’s only been a short experience, but it’s been a really good experience. It hasn’t been fun. I wouldn’t categorize them as fun meetings. But those meetings make me better, and I trust make us better.”
Different owners have different approaches. Some don’t get involved in day-to-day operations and trust their coaches and front office workers to run things. Others like to be heavily involved, sometimes influencing roster and draft decisions, like Jerry Jones.
Reich has previous experience as a head coach working under an owner like Jim Irsay, who has varying levels of involvement in his Indianapolis Colts. Now we know that Tepper is pretty involved as well.
The Panthers remain winless through five weeks in the 2023 NFL season. With the team scuffling, Carolina is already rumored to be looking for an improvement in one particular area.
