Garrett Wilson makes absolutely absurd one-handed TD catch in win over Texans

Garrett Wilson making a one-handed touchdown catch

Though much of the attention has been on new teammate Davante Adams, on Thursday, Garrett Wilson reminded the world exactly what he can do.

The New York Jets receiver Wilson delivered a catch-of-the-year (or perhaps a catch-of-the-century) candidate in Week 9 against the Houston Texans. In the fourth quarter with the Jets facing 3rd-and-19 from the Texans’ 26-yard-line, Wilson went up one-on-one vs. Houston cornerback Kamari Lassiter, and Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers aired it out for him in the end zone.

In what can only be described as a piece of pure Renaissance artwork, Wilson leapt high and reached back for the ball with just his right hand … and somehow came down with it for the touchdown. The play was initially ruled an incomplete pass (with the officials seemingly in as much disbelief as the rest of us were) before being confirmed as a touchdown after the Jets challenged the ruling.

Here is the breathtaking video.

A couple of other angles showed just how truly absurd Wilson’s grab was.

All the superlatives in the English language wouldn’t be enough to describe that catch by Wilson. He looked just like the Jumpman logo there. Wow!

Wilson’s mythical grab ended up being hugely important as it gave the Jets a 14-10 lead, which they never relinquished before going on to win 21-13. It is safe to say that the former Offensive Rookie of the Year more than made up for the boneheaded play that another Jets receiver made earlier in the game.
