The New York Giants have reportedly tried to make a significant trade leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft, but it sounds like the door is officially closed on it.
The Giants have made multiple calls to the Tennessee Titans about moving up to No. 1 overall in the draft, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. While they were the “most aggressive” team in attempting to acquire the top overall pick, the Giants have been turned away like everyone else.
Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi announced on Tuesday that the team has decided it will use the No. 1 pick, which essentially confirms the obvious. It has been viewed as a lock for quite some time that Tennessee will draft Cam Ward.
New York’s attempt to trade up two spots to No. 1 likely says a lot about how they view Ward compared to Shedeur Sanders. The Giants have shown interest in Sanders, but they could land him third overall if they truly believed he has the potential to become a franchise quarterback. They would not have tried to trade up for Ward if they viewed Sanders as being in the same tier as the former Miami star.
Most scouts and analysts believe Ward is the best quarterback in the 2025 class, and possibly the only one worth taking in the top 10. It is safe to assume the Giants feel the same way if they aggressively tried to move up from No. 3 to No. 1.
With the Titans locked in on Ward, it seems like the Giants are going to target a position other than quarterback with their first-round pick.
