Buoniconti, a native of Massachusetts, was drafted by the Boston Patriots in 1962 and made four All-Star appearances during his seven seasons with the team. He finished his career by playing seven more seasons with the Dolphins, where he was part of their undefeated championship team in 1972. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
Roughly two years ago, Buoniconti revealed that his health was in decline and opened up about some of the disturbing negative effects playing football had on his body.
