Henry Ruggs was disappointed with his blazing 40 time

Henry Ruggs

Henry Ruggs’ 4.27 40-yard dash time was the fastest of the year, but the wide receiver thought he could have done better.

The Alabama wide receiver said he has run faster times in training, and even nitpicked his performance to explain where he felt he fell short.

“I actually was a little disappointed,” Ruggs told SiriusXM NFL Radio, via Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk. “Just a lot of technical things I did during the run. … But I’m still glad to be known as one of the fastest ever.

“After the re-start I was thinking a lot and didn’t really come out of my start like I wanted to, didn’t really come out fluid, and didn’t really push on my first two steps. Then, running with my hands closed kind of tensed me up so I couldn’t really open up like I wanted to.”

Ruggs’ time was plenty fast enough. His very impressive Combine excited a lot of teams and solidified him as one of the top receivers on the board and a first-round pick. It’s good that he’s that critical of himself, but at a certain point, elite speed just speaks for itself and the last few tenths of a second don’t matter all that much.
