Jacoby Jones heading for MRI after punt mishap with Brynden Trawick
Baltimore Ravens rookie defensive back Brynden Trawick performed well enough in training camp and the preseason to earn a spot on special teams, but he may lose it after what happened on Thursday night against the Denver Broncos. Jacoby Jones, also of the Ravens, called for a fair catch on a punt in the first half and was leveled by Trawick as he was waiting for the ball to come down.
Jones did not return after being diagnosed with a knee sprain. He is scheduled for an MRI on Friday to assess the damage, which Baltimore is hoping will be minimal. The Ravens’ passing attack looked unimpressive against a Broncos secondary that was missing Champ Bailey, so they can ill afford to lose another receiver.
What appeared to happen is that Trawick was locked onto the man he was supposed to be blocking and completely lost track of where Jones was standing. He’ll need to have better awareness than that if he wants to keep his job. If it’s any consolation for Trawick, his play was not nearly the most idiotic play of the evening, although it may have cost his team more.
