The Dallas Cowboys are giving consideration to signing a former top overall draft pick.
Veteran pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney was in Dallas on Wednesday to meet with the Cowboys, according to a report from Josina Anderson.
Clowney, who was drafted No. 1 overall by the Houston Texans in 2014, has been a free agent since he was released by the Carolina Panthers in May. He appeared in 14 games last season after signing a 2-year, $20 million deal.
Clowney had 46 total tackles and 5.5 sacks in his lone season with the Panthers. The 32-year-old has bounced around to several different teams over the last few years. He played the first five years of his career with the Texans and then had brief stints with the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Panthers.
Though he has battled injuries, Clowney is just two years removed from a very productive 2023 season. He matched a career high with 9.5 sacks and had 2 forced fumbles that year with Baltimore.
The Cowboys have an obvious need for pass-rush help after they traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. If Clowney is healthy and in shape, there is a chance he could become a contributor in Dallas.
