Jaguars may be close to getting key offensive weapon back

The struggling Jacksonville Jaguars may be close to getting some major help on offense.

The Jaguars on Wednesday announced that they were opening wide receiver Christian Kirk’s 21-day practice window to bring him back from injured reserve, signaling that he may be close to being able to return to action.

Potentially significant news for the #Jaguars: They have opened WR Christian Kirk's 21-day practice window to return from IR, four weeks or so after core muscle surgery.

The good news for the Jaguars is that Kirk sounds like he is getting close. The bad news is that this Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans is probably too soon to expect him back, which is problematic since it is essentially a win-and-in game for Jacksonville’s playoff status. They will probably have to win that game for this to matter, and then they might think about having him back for a playoff game.

The Jaguars’ offense has significantly nosedived since Kirk got hurt early in the team’s Week 13 loss to Cincinnati. The team has won only once since then, including a two-week span that saw the team score just 19 combined points in a pair of losses.

Kirk is the team’s third-leading receiver with 787 yards and three touchdown receptions this year. He underwent core muscle surgery less than a month ago.
