James Conner admits he’s still ‘not ready’ to play for Steelers
James Conner’s ankle sprain was expected to recover quickly enough for him to feature in Week 16, but it doesn’t seem to be cooperating.
The Pittsburgh Steelers running back admitted Wednesday that he’s still “not ready” and is taking things day-by-day as he works in practice.

Conner essentially said that high-intensity football moves, like cutting, still provide difficulty for him, and if he can’t perform at his best, he’s not going to play.
Conner has missed the last two games with the ankle injury. Last week’s prognosis had him as likely to progress quickly enough to return against the New Orleans Saints this weekend. That is beginning to look less likely, especially if he’s still limited in practice as late as Wednesday.
