Report: Jay Ajayi could see much higher workload in 2018
The Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning offense may be seeing a fairly decent makeover beyond just the reintegration of Carson Wentz.
Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice reported over the weekend that there is a good chance running back Jay Ajayi could see a “much higher” workload in 2018.
Ajayi, 25, was acquired by the Eagles from the Miami Dolphins in the middle of the 2017 season. He would rush for 408 yards and a touchdown in seven regular season games for them plus another 184 yards in three playoff games.
Working for Ajayi is that LeGarrette Blount, the Eagles’ leading rusher last season, left to sign with the Detroit Lions. Working against him however is that Darren Sproles (who is better than Ajayi as a pass-catcher) will be back from his ACL tear and that Corey Clement (who commands a solid amount of goal-line work in addition to factoring in the passing game) will still be vying for primary touches as well.
In spite of another possible timeshare though, it sounds like Ajayi will be the clear No. 1 heading into next season. That is good news for him, both because he is in a contract year and because he can continue to stick it to the Dolphins.
