Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers may have to cancel their big bet

Former LSU teammates Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers may have to scuttle a big bet they made with each other over who will win Rookie of the Year honors.

Nabers said on the NFL Draft night episode of “The Pivot” that he and Daniels had a $10,000 bet on which of them would win Rookie of the Year. Daniels was asked about that bet on a recent episode of Keyshawn Johnson’s “All Facts No Brakes” podcast, and the new Washington Commanders quarterback confessed to being a part of it.

“Man, he wasn’t supposed to tell nobody,” Daniels said. “We got a little something going on.”

That little something might run afoul of the NFL’s gambling rules. Nicki Jhabvala and Mark Maske of the Washington Post confirmed Thursday that Daniels, and presumably Nabers, will be educated on the league’s gambling policy as part of rookie minicamp. While there is no explicit language prohibiting private bets with friends and family, the league might not take kindly to a wager between two rookies regarding one of its major awards.

Nabers was drafted by the New York Giants and was much quicker to let the bet slip. This might not necessarily be what one pre-draft report meant when he was hit with the dreaded character concerns label, but it may be something the Giants want to have a word with him about.
