Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie may be looking to cash in on a minority stake of the franchise.

Lurie has begun exploring a sale of a minority share of the Eagles, according to Gillian Tan of Bloomberg. It has been made clear to interested parties that there will be no path to a majority stake, suggesting this is not the first step in Lurie actually selling the franchise entirely.

In initial assessments, the Eagles may be valued at roughly $7.5 billion, which would easily beat the record $6 billion sale of the Washington Commanders last year. It is not clear just how large of a minority share Lurie is considering selling, but he would be in line for a massive windfall after paying just $185 million for the Eagles in 1994.

If Lurie does sell a minority share, the price tag would be the most interesting part, as it would give us an indication of just how much one of the NFL’s premier franchises is actually worth. Another high-profile franchise is exploring doing the same as well.
