Jerry Jones says Cowboys have ‘no succinct plans’ to honor Tony Romo
The Dallas Cowboys are eventually going to honor Tony Romo for the career he had with the team, but don’t be surprised if that doesn’t happen until a few years down the road.
With the Cowboys having recently signed DeMarcus Ware to a contract so he could ceremoniously retire as a member of the team, Jerry Jones was asked this week if he is planning anything similar for Romo. The short answer? Not yet.
“Is the idea that recognizing him for what he’s done for the Cowboys likely? Yes,” Jones said, via the team’s official website. “I don’t want to get ahead of ourselves at all on what we might do. At this juncture there has been, just by the nature of how Tony’s career has evolved at this point over the past year, it’s had a lot of recognition. We will look to the future on timing as to when we might have some more recognition.”
Jones said there are “no succinct plans” to honor Romo at this time. He also added that the Cowboys are in no rush because “DeMarcus retired and Tony hasn’t.” Uh oh — cue the latest round of rumors.
Romo couldn’t have landed a better job with CBS, but even his former teammates think he will continue his playing career at some point. While Jones was simply stating a fact in that Romo has yet to file his official retirement paperwork, that comment is sure to help perpetuate the rumors.
