Jerry Jones: Cowboys won’t give up on Randy Gregory

The Dallas Cowboys took a chance on Randy Gregory in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, and it has not paid off. That doesn’t mean the team is ready to throw in the towel on the repeat drug offender, however.

On Sunday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he is not going to give up on Gregory as a player or person.

“I, of course, know the details of his situation, and I can’t and I won’t comment on details about it,” Jones said, per Charean Williams of the Star-Telegram. “But I am not giving up on Randy Gregory for the Cowboys and certainly not giving up on him as a person in life — at all. Not that it makes any difference that I do, but I do not dismiss him from our future.”

Gregory is facing a one-year suspension after he reportedly failed yet another drug test. The former Nebraska star tested positive for marijuana at the NFL Combine, but the Cowboys drafted him anyway. He was originally suspended for the first four games of the season, but that number was bumped up to 14 games after he tested positive again while serving the ban. The latest failed test is believed to be Gregory’s sixth and will likely trigger a one-year suspension.

Gregory supposedly made an attempt to get clean over the summer, but it obviously didn’t work. We wouldn’t be surprised if Jones changes his mind about the 23-year-old’s future with the team.
