JJ Watt does not have a girlfriend because of focus on football

JJ Watt

JJ Watt does not have a girlfriend, but that’s not because he’s opposed to having one. Rather, Watt values personal relationships and believes his commitment to football would make it difficult to give the kind of time and attention he thinks a girlfriend deserves.

Watt talked about his love life in an interview with ESPN’s Michelle Beisner.

“It’s not that I don’t want to (have a girlfriend), it’s that I haven’t yet,” Watt told Beisner. “I haven’t been able to make it happen yet.

“I obviously would love to have a girlfriend but a girlfriend deserves so much of your time and energy,” Watt said. “And she deserves to be treated like a princess because that’s how you should treat your girls. And if I can’t give them that time and that devotion because of my dedication to football, then I don’t feel like I should almost waste their time.

“If I find the right girl and she steals my heart then it might be a different story. It’s very difficult and I’m not overly optimistic about it, but I would love the opportunity.”

I’m sure this news just made a bunch of women in Houston and around the country very happy. Watt has that superhuman, muscular, G.I. Joe/He-Man/Guile thing going. Plus when you have the kind of attitude that he has — someone who appreciates women and values relationships — he becomes even more desirable to women.

Based on his answer, I would say Watt isn’t all that different from a guy like Derek Jeter. Sure, Jeter had girlfriends during his career, but he never completely settled down because he felt that would be too tough with his focus on baseball. This also helps explain his greatness. Anyone that dedicated to their craft tends to reap the benefits of all the focus.
