Joe Flacco’s agent is seeking top-five quarterback money

joe flaccoJoe Flacco is not one of the top five quarterbacks in the NFL. Any one of us could name five quarterbacks who are clearly better than Flacco without even having to think about it. Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, and Eli Manning. Boom — done without hesitation. With Flacco currently seeking a contract extension, the debate revolves around whether or not he deserves to be paid like a top-five NFL quarterback. His agent, Joe Linta, is seeking that type of money.

“If the game is about wins and losses, he has to be in the top five (quarterbacks),” Linta said according to the Baltimore Sun. “He is a player who has been extremely durable, never missed a game. And he’s done something that no one has ever done. In his four years in the league, he has never missed a game and has more wins than any other quarterback.”

Flacco has done a tremendous job of winning games and the Ravens are ultimately going to keep him, but is he more responsible for the wins or a product of a great defense and system? There is no quarterback in the NFL who has had to do less to achieve more than Flacco. He took heat from the media all last season to the point where it frustrated him a ton.

Having Flacco under center has seemed to work for the Ravens, but do they want to pay him like a Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers? He certainly deserves more than a guy like Matt Cassel, but Baltimore has done a lot of winning because of their defense and Ray Rice. As Ray Lewis and Ed Reed continue to age, Flacco may be in danger of being exposed for who he really is.
