Joey Bosa’s dad calls into sports talk show, thinks the NFL Combine is stupid

Like many other draft hopefuls, Joey Bosa was at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis during the week showing off for all 32 teams. It turns out that this is stressful for all members of the family, as evidenced by a phone call to CBS Sports Radio by, apparently, Joey Bosa’s father.

Eye on College Football’s Chip Patterson reports that a man calling himself John with a phone number registered to Bosa’s father John called in to rant about the Combine.

“I’m blowing off some steam,” John Bosa, a former NFL defensive lineman himself, told the Gresh Show on Saturday. “My cell phone might not be [good] because I’m on a beach — it’s a beautiful day in Ft. Lauderdale — but I’m a nervous wreck.

“He’s been training specifically for the combine since three days after the bowl game. The combine, as you know, it’s a very unrealistic group of exercises. It’s not something that a defensive end in college football trains for. They don’t train for a 40. They don’t train for a standing broad jumps. That’s not how football players train!”

Bosa actually raises some valid points here. You can glean some information from the NFL Combine, but ultimately every position is judged on something different. Not to mention the fact that the entire process sounds pretty stressful and annoying. We wonder if Bosa himself would echo his father’s comments.

Of course, given some of the questions Bosa has been asked in Indianapolis, one can hardly blame him for thinking this whole ordeal is rather silly.
