John Elway: Broncos’ options ‘wide open’ with No. 5 overall pick
John Elway has not had much luck drafting quarterbacks since he took over as the head of football operations for the Denver Broncos, but he is in a great position to redeem himself this year. The question is whether or not he will try to do that.
The Broncos have already signed Case Keenum this offseason, so they have their starter in place for 2018. However, the 2018 draft class is considered very deep at the quarterback position, and the Broncos have the No. 5 overall pick. Are they leaning toward taking a QB there?
Elway on whether Broncos take a QB at No. 5: ”We’re wide open to be dead honest with you. I will tell ya, it’s funny how people think they know who you’re drafting because I don’t know who we’re drafting yet. We’re going to do our homework and eventually get there.’’ #9sports

Denver obviously has to see how the first four picks go. All four teams picking ahead of the Broncos could use a quarterback, though they will be tempted to take Penn State’s Saquon Barkley or NC State’s Bradley Chubb. If one of Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen or Josh Allen is still on the board when the Broncos pick, it would be tough to imagine Elway passing up that opportunity.
The Broncos have traded Trevor Siemian, so they need a backup QB behind Keenum. Unless you think there’s really a chance they bring in a huge risk like the one they’ve been linked to, drafting a QB makes the most sense.
