John Harbaugh will remain Ravens’ coach in 2019

John Harbaugh

After a lot of questions, John Harbaugh’s job will not be in jeopardy this offseason after all.

The Baltimore Ravens announced Friday that Harbaugh will return for the 2019 season, and the two sides are working on a contract extension to keep him with the organization beyond that.

This definitely qualifies as unexpected. In fact, as recently as November, published reports indicated that Harbaugh and the Ravens would likely part ways after 2018 to avoid what would have been a lame duck season.

Since that report, however, the Ravens have gone 4-1, thanks in part to the play of rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson. The only loss was a three-point heartbreaker at the AFC-leading Kansas City Chiefs. It suddenly looks like the Ravens may yet make the playoffs, and Harbaugh has clearly shown enough that they feel he’s worth retaining. Significant changes to the roster remain likely, however.
