Jordan Matthews has great reason for not asking for No. 87 with Patriots
Jordan Matthews wore No. 87 with the Buffalo Bills last season, but he has decided to change jersey numbers as he begins his career with the New England Patriots. Well, he really didn’t have a choice.
Oftentimes when players change teams, they will try to work out a deal with a new teammate if they’re adamant about not switching jersey numbers. But in this particular case, Matthews doesn’t feel like getting into a wrestling match just so he can keep No. 87.
Jordan Matthews wore No. 87 last year, but didn't want to ask for it: "I think somebody is wearing that. I was like, whoever has that I can probably fight him, but I heard he was big. So, I won’t worry about it."

Rather than asking Rob Gronkowski to give up the jersey number he has worn during his entire Hall of Fame career with the Patriots, Matthews is going to wear No. 80.
While Gronk may be looking for a raise this offseason, we highly doubt he would go for a business transaction like some of the ones we have seen involving jerseys in the past.
