Best catches: Jordy Nelson on sidelines, Michael Floyd one-handed grab
Lots of quarterbacks put up some huge numbers during Week 1 of the NFL season, and some of their wide receivers need to be recognized for their plays. One of the finest catches of the weekend came from Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson on the sidelines against the San Francisco 49ers:
Nelson made this catch on a 1st and 10 situation at midfield with just under 10 minutes left in the game. What the GIF does not show is that Rodgers launched the ball on a line from the Packers’ 45, making Nelson’s catch and ability to stay inbounds even more impressive than it looks. It’s one thing to do that from a short distance, but it’s another to do it on a 37-yard pass. Amazing. Nelson had 7 catches for 130 yards and a touchdown in the 34-28 loss.
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd made a one-handed catch for a 44-yard bomb from Carson Palmer in the second quarter against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Two plays later they scored a touchdown to go up 7-0.
What was so impressive about that one-handed grab is that Cortland Finnegan was yanking Floyd from behind by his jersey, pulling him away from the ball. Yet he still managed to make the grab. Floyd finished with four catches for 82 yards in the 27-24 loss.
