Kellen Winslow court case takes interesting twist
Kellen Winslow appeared in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing, and his case took an interesting twist when three women could not identify the former NFL tight end as the man who committed crimes against them.
Winslow is facing charges of kidnapping and raping two women in addition to allegations of indecent exposure. According to FOX 5 in San Diego, a woman described as Jane Doe 1 said an African-American man picked her up when she was hitchhiking and gave her an ultimatum before sexually assaulting her.
“He said, ‘I’m gonna f— you or I’m gonna kill you,” the woman recalled. “He goes, ‘I don’t care who’s gonna watch. I’m gonna kill you.’ … I just thought he was going to shoot me or something. I don’t know. I can’t tell you why I didn’t run or I didn’t scream. I was that scared.”
The woman was asked if she recognized Winslow, who was sitting in court, as the man who attacked her, but she could not identify him.
Another woman, a 71-year-old identified as Jane Doe 4, said she encountered a trespasser on June 8 in the back of her mobile home but never felt the man was going to harm her. When she learned of Winslow’s arrest on a newscast later that evening and realized he was the same man who had been trespassing, she called the police at the urging of a friend. Like Jane Doe 1, she could not identify Winslow as the suspect in court on Wednesday.
A third woman was also unable to identify Winslow as the man who dropped his shorts and exposed himself to her on her property back in May.
Winslow is facing a long list of charges and is being held without bail. In the past he has typically had facial hair and not worn eyeglasses, so the look he was sporting in court Wednesday was certainly a new one.
