The San Francisco 49ers will once again have to play without superstar pass rusher Nick Bosa.
On Thursday, Bosa suffered a calf injury during a high-knee exercise at practice, and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he would return this season, though he will miss “a few weeks.”

"He'll be back," Kyle Shanahan says, adding Bosa will be out "a few weeks"
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported earlier on Friday that Bosa would be out for some time, but Shanahan’s comments sure make it sound like Bosa will return at some point this season.
The 49ers already have quite a few players on IR, including wide receivers Ricky Pearsall and rookie De’Zhaun Stribling. The crowded IR slots appear to be one reason why the team isn’t planning on placing Bosa on there, at least not right now.
The 49ers now are leaning toward not placing DE Nick Bosa on injured reserve in part because they’re running out of injured reserve spaces, per source. https://t.co/15vjNdar3L

Nick Bosa played just three games in 2025 due to suffering a torn ACL in Week 3, and this is yet another crushing injury blow for the 49ers.
