Odell Beckham’s trade to the Cleveland Browns came as a shock, but one of the era’s most prominent wide receivers thinks it could be a huge benefit for his career.
Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald thinks leaving the spotlight of New York and reuniting with an old college teammate will both be immensely helpful to Beckham.
“I think it can be great for him, getting to a smaller city where there’s just not as many distractions, he can focus on ball and really let his talents do the speaking for him,” Fitzgerald said, via Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. “He’s with that group with (Jarvis) Landry, again they went to college together, so that could be a great, great combination with a rising quarterback (in Baker Mayfield) as well.”
Initially, Beckham seemed a bit overwhelmed by the trade, but Fitzgerald probably has a point. The glare of the New York media didn’t always agree with Beckham. He’ll get plenty of attention in Cleveland, but it won’t be the same, and that could be beneficial.
