Fitzgerald Hopes Favre Doesn’t Return, Leaves Saints Out of NFC Discussion

A lot of the time when players give interviews, they aren’t thinking clearly and say some things they might regret.  Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald talked with the Minneapolis Star Tribune recently but it’s what he didn’t say to them that’s newsworthy. Check out his recent comments regarding Brett Favre’s importance to the Minnesota Vikings and which teams are to be feared in the NFC, via Pro Football Talk.

“Honestly, if he didn’t come back I wouldn’t mind,” Fitzgerald said, per Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.  “You look at the NFC right now, you think of the Cowboys, you think of the Green Bay Packers, you think of the Minnesota Vikings. Those are the three juggernauts in our conference and if Brett wasn’t back I don’t know.”

When talking about the NFC “juggernauts” this upcoming season, Fitzgerald left out a pretty big one — the team that knocked his Cardinals out of the playoffs last season.  I’m going to go ahead and assume, or hope, that the Saints simply slipped Fitzgerald’s mind as he was being asked about Favre.  However, it’s kind of tough to forget the Super Bowl champs, so as an NFC player, he’d do well to keep them fresh on his mind headed into the upcoming season.  After all, they’ve earned the right to be called “the team to beat” until further notice.
