Lions WR Jermaine Kearse carted off after suffering leg injury

Jermaine Kearse suffered an unfortunate injury during the Detroit Lions’ first preseason game.

Kearse was blocking near the sideline on a running play. A New England Patriots defender attempted to tackle running back Ty Johnson but missed and landed on the back of Kearse’s left leg.

Kearse was down on the turf, had his leg placed in an air cast, and was carted off the field.

The 29-year-old wide receiver signed a one-year, $1.35 million contract with Detroit this year. He had 37 catches for 371 yards and a touchdown last season for the Jets. Lions reporter Dave Birkett says Kearse was in contention to win the Lions’ No. 4 receiver spot.
