Martellus Bennett seems pleased about being traded to Patriots

Veteran tight end Martellus Bennett was traded to the New England Patriots on Wednesday. For a guy who was upset over not getting the ball enough last season, playing alongside Rob Gronkowski might not be an ideal scenario.

But Bennett seems open to making it work.

Shortly after the Patriots and Chicago Bears completed their deal, Bennett shared the following photo on Instagram:

Hi Tom I'm Marty. Let's do this.

Bennett was a low-risk, high-reward acquisition for the Patriots, as they swapped a fourth-round draft pick for Bennett and Chicago’s sixth-rounder. Bennett is under contract for about $5 million next season and will become a free agent after that.

In New England’s offense, Bennett will likely be the the fourth or fifth passing option behind Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Dion Lewis and possibly the newly-acquired Chris Hogan. If you read this report about his feud with the Bears last season, you might be inclined to think Bennett will be unhappy playing for a contract in that situation. But if he’s satisfied not coming anywhere close to his career high of 90 catches two years ago, the 29-year-old could be an incredibly dangerous option in Brady’s arsenal.
