The Detroit Lions have reportedly found their next head coach, but they may end up having to wait until after the Super Bowl to finalize the deal.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is expected to accept the head coaching job in Detroit.

Patricia has been one of the hottest names on the coaching market for the past year or so, and there had been reports that he was the leading candidate for another job as well. The 43-year-old has been an assistant on Bill Belichick’s staff since 2004 and has been a part of three Super Bowl championships with the Patriots.
Lions general manager Bob Quinn used to work in the Patriots’ personnel department, which likely played a role in the decision to go with Patricia.
Schefter also reports that Josh McDaniels is likely to take either the New York Giants or Indianapolis Colts head coaching job, so Belichick is going to lose his top two coordinators after the season ends. Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores is one of the finalists for the Arizona Cardinals job, but it could be more likely that he is promoted to defensive coordinator in New England.
