Matt Ryan: Deflategate will not affect Tom Brady’s legacy

Tom-Brady

Whether he deserves it or not, Tom Brady is going to have a four-game suspension on his resume when his playing career comes to an end. Will that negatively impact his legacy?

Matt Ryan doesn’t think so.

TMZ recently caught up with Ryan to get his opinion on Deflategate. When asked specifically if it puts a stain on what Brady has accomplished, Ryan defended the Patriots quarterback.

“I don’t think so,” he said. “Obviously four Super Bowls and playing at the high level he has for a long time. People know how good Tom is. Having known him personally, I think he’s a great guy and a great player.”

Most people were happy to hear that Brady will reluctantly accept his four-game suspension. Some Patriots fans were even relieved to put Deflategate in the rearview. Ryan doesn’t blame Brady for giving up the fight.

“Tom has to make those decisions for himself,” Ryan said. “Obviously he’s fought it pretty hard up until this point. I guess maybe he felt like that was the right decision for him. Any way you shake it Tom will be back after four games and playing great.”

Brady clearly isn’t admitting guilt, as you can see if you read his latest statement on the matter. At the end of the day, most people are going to agree with Ryan about Brady’s legacy. Allegedly having knowledge of footballs being deflated a tiny bit is not enough to put an asterisk next to a Hall of Famer’s name.
