Melvin Gordon reportedly set to play Sunday on limited snap count

The Los Angeles Chargers will have star running back Melvin Gordon on the field Sunday.

According to Mike Jones of USA Today, Gordon is set to make his season debut on a limited snap count after ending his holdout Thursday and reporting to the team.

Gordon initially was not expected to play in Week 4 given how short a week he had. However, the Chargers have changed their tune. Part of the reason likely comes down to the absence of running back Justin Jackson, who won’t play due to a calf injury. Without Gordon, Austin Ekeler would have been the only real option out of the backfield. The Chargers can sprinkle in Gordon to compensate for that absence.

As for Gordon’s return, it’s probably financially motivated — just as his unsuccessful holdout was.
