Micah Parsons is looking to become the next defensive superstar to sign a record-setting contract, but he reportedly has no plans to hold out.
Parsons is expected to be present when the Dallas Cowboys begin training camp on Monday, according to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz.
Parsons is set to make roughly $24 million this season via the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. He watched Cleveland Browns pass-rusher Micah Parsons sign an extension earlier this offseason that pays $40 million per year, which at the time was the richest non-quarterback contract in NFL history.
TJ Watt surpassed Garrett’s average annual value with the three-year extension Watt signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has suggested that the team intends to pay Parsons. The market has now been set, and there is no way Parsons would accept a lesser average annual value than what Watt got from Pittsburgh.
Parsons has been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL since Dallas drafted him in 2021. The 25-year-old has collected 52.5 sacks through his first 63 NFL games, including 12 in 13 games last season.
Assuming Parsons does plan to report to training camp, that is probably a good indicator that talks between his representatives and the Cowboys are at least headed in the right direction.
