Michael Bennett: Todd Gurley is ‘average to me’
Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett is very much not in the business of praising opponents.
Bennett and the Seahawks got their first look at rookie running back Todd Gurley on Sunday, as he missed the first matchup between the two teams. Gurley ran for 85 yards on 19 carries and the decisive touchdown. Bennett, however, didn’t think much of the performance.
“He’s average to me, personally,” Bennett told reporters, via ESPN. “I’ve seen better running backs. He’s no Marshawn Lynch.”
Well, no. Lynch is a Super Bowl champ and a five time Pro Bowler; Gurley is a rookie who has yet to reach those levels, but appears entirely capable, and is third in the league in rushing despite missing the first two games of the year. This seems like sour grapes after a bad loss for Seattle.
Of course, this is Michael Bennett we’re talking about. He always has a lot to say about his fellow players, NFL referees, opposing head coaches, and even American history.
