Michael Sam reconnecting with his roots after leaving CFL
Michael Sam is taking some time to reconnect with his roots after leaving the CFL last week.
Sam announced last week that he was going to be leaving the Montreal Alouettes, a week after making his debut for the CFL team. Sam had previously taken a leave from the team before returning, but last week he decided to leave for good to protect his mental health.
In an attempt to get his life back in order, Sam has returned home. On Thursday he tweeted about spending some time with his dad for the first time in a year and a half.
First time chatting with my dad since February 2014!!! #love #forgiveness #refocus #nextstop

Then on Friday he went back to his high school — Hitchcock High in Texas.

Sam seems to be happy, which is the most important thing. Whatever was going on over the past few months in the CFL clearly wasn’t working for him, so it’s important for him to get his life squared away. Playing football may not be in his future, but who knows — based on his optimistic tweet, perhaps he’d like to explore coaching.
