Mike McCarthy hits back at Damarious Randall’s criticism of coaches

There are major changes happening in the Green Bay Packers organization, and it sounds like there’s a bit of tension as well.

Packers cornerback Damarious Randall was publicly critical of the coaching staff in the wake of Green Bay’s disappointing season, saying that coaches needed to hold players more accountable for on-field errors. That comment did not sit well with head coach Mike McCarthy, who suggested that Randall should straighten himself out before taking aim at anyone else.

“You’re talking about words of frustration,” McCarthy said, via Ryan Wood and Michael Cohen of Packers News. “I’ll tell you what I told Damarious. He needs to focus on himself. He’s got to clean his own house. That’s what I look for him to do in the offseason. He did a lot of really good things.”

McCarthy made note of the fact that Randall was sent to the locker room during a game against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 28 for pouting after being beaten for a touchdown.

“We all understand what happened in the Chicago game, but I thought from the Chicago game on he played at a very high level,” McCarthy said. “He probably played his best football of his career, but then he didn’t play the last two games.”

The Packers are clearly frustrated too, given that they’re doing some serious housecleaning of their coaching staff. It will be interesting to see if these little issues last into next season.
