Mike Mitchell delivers late, dirty hit on Alex Smith
Mike Mitchell was penalized in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday after delivering a late, dirty hit on Alex Smith.
The Chiefs had the ball down 12-3 to the Steelers late in the third quarter in a 3rd and 8 situation. Smith dumped off to Kareem Hunt for a big gain, but before that happened, he was grabbed by Mitchell in the facemask and then hit low:

Mitchell was called for a personal foul for the late hit, giving the Chiefs an extra 15 yards. He was lucky that Kansas City turned the ball over on downs because he made some serious mistakes on that sequence.
Mitchell has a reputation for this sort of thing, which is how he ended up on Steve Smith’s lifetime hit list.
