Minnesota to host Super Bowl LII in 2018
Get ready for another cold-weather Super Bowl. The NFL announced Tuesday that Minnesota will host Super Bowl LII in 2018.
Minnesota beat out New Orleans and Indianapolis for the honor to host its second Super Bowl. Minnesota also hosted the Super Bowl at the Metrodome in 1992.
This time around, the Super Bowl will be held in a different stadium.
Minnesota is building a new football stadium that will be ready in 2016. Nearly $500 million in public funds were used to build the stadium, which is a big reason why the league has chosen to reward the area by allowing them to host the big game.
In recent years, the league has awarded Detroit, Indianapolis and East Rutherford/New York with Super Bowls for building new stadiums.
The sites for the next four Super Bowls are: University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., in 2015; Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., in 2016; Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, in 2017; and the new Vikings Stadium in Minneapolis in 2018.
