Norv Turner abruptly resigns as Vikings offensive coordinator

norv-turnerTwo straight defeats have left the Minnesota Vikings reeling, and that won’t change with offensive coordinator Norv Turner abruptly walking away from the job on Wednesday.

The Vikings confirmed Turner’s resignation on Wednesday, adding that former Browns head coach Pat Shurmur will be the interim offensive coordinator, having previously served as tight ends coach.

Turner had been Minnesota’s offensive coordinator since 2014, arriving at the same time as head coach Mike Zimmer.

Nobody would have seen this coming two weeks earlier, when the Vikings were flying high and unbeaten at 5-0. However, their 11 offensive touchdowns is the second worst in the league, and they scored 10 points in each of their two consecutive losses, the first of which Zimmer termed “embarrassing.” Perhaps something happened behind the scenes, but even with the team’s recent struggles, this is a surprise.
