Packers cut DeShone Kizer, keep Tim Boyle as backup QB
The Green Bay Packers are making a bold move at their backup quarterback position.
The Packers are cutting DeShone Kizer and keeping undrafted free agent Tim Boyle as their backup quarterback, according to reports on Saturday.
Kizer, a second-round pick by Cleveland in 2017, was acquired by the Packers in a trade last year. He saw action in three games last season for the Packers as a backup to Aaron Rodgers but failed to make the 53-man roster this season. The 23-year-old has passed for 11 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in his NFL career and will now look for another opportunity.
Equally big as a story is Boyle’s ascendance. Boyle threw for one touchdown and 13 interceptions over three seasons at UConn before transferring to Eastern Kentucky, where he passed for 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He went undrafted and is now a backup NFL quarterback.
Rodgers played in all 16 games last season but just seven the season before due to injury.
