Patriots bring back Brandon Spikes
The New England Patriots have signed linebacker Brandon Spikes to a one-year contract, which is shocking to those who remember how Spikes left the team prior to the 2014 season.
The signing — first reported by ESPN’s Field Yates — proves that there are no hard feelings between Spikes and the team that drafted him. When Spikes left New England as a free agent last year and signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, he referred to himself as “4 years a slave” in a series of tweets. He also went off on Patriots fans and said he was looking forward to beating his former team twice.
And that wasn’t even the start of the drama. The Patriots placed Spikes on IR after the 2013 season when he supposedly showed up late to practice. He later accused the team of giving him a false IR designation, though he had tweaked his knee in a Week 17 win. There were also other tweets that Spikes sent that indicated he couldn’t wait to get away from Bill Belichick.
Yet, here we are. The Patriots felt that Spikes could help their defense and he was clearly open to a reunion. Sticks and stones…
