Patriots reportedly looking to trade WR Malcolm Mitchell
New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell has struggled to stay healthy during his first two years in the NFL, and the team may be ready to move on from the former fourth-round draft pick.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the Patriots have been exploring trade possibilities for Mitchell this offseason.
The #Patriots have been seeking a potential trade partner for WR Malcolm Mitchell, per sources. Flashed talent with 32 catches in 2016 but injuries have been frustrating. May be odd man out in New England, even with Julian Edelman’s suspension.

Pelissero’s colleague Ian Rapoport adds that the Patriots are “high” on Kenny Britt for what may be Mitchell’s roster spot.
One of Mitchell’s best games with the Patriots could not have come at a better time, as he was instrumental in helping them mount a miraculous comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. Mitchell finished with six catches for 70 yards in that game and made multiple big plays down the stretch when New England desperately needed first downs to keep drives alive.
After his performance on the biggest stage in football, Mitchell became an obvious breakout candidate for 2017. However, foot and knee issues resulted in him not playing at all. Even with the unexpected blow the Patriots were dealt at the wide receiver position this offseason, Mitchell’s days with the franchise sound numbered.
